The beauty of a gluten free diet
The
really good news is that we can throw away all the foods which are
bad for us chips, cakes, biscuits, bread, burger buns, hot dogs,
(half of our) chocolates, sandwiches, beer, lager etc.
We
never have to eat them again.
We
(nearly) always get better meals than everyone else.
We
certainly get better foods, though UK food processors are getting
better.
We can create our own menu for example filled with a:
good breakfast for example egg and bacon with tomatoes and mushrooms; or boiled eggs with cold meats / cheeses; or kippers or smoked haddock with poached egg; or quinoa porridge; or scrambled eggs with a slice of smoked salmon; (we need to keep the grellins happy)
substantial lunch sardines with salad and potatoes or cold meats with baked beans and jacket potato
light evening meal with for example a small portion of pasta, new potatoes with poached fish and ratatouille, and
particularly puddings for example fresh fruit or with yoghurt or crème fraiche; yoghurt with honey; crème caramel; baked apples. pears etc;
We can lose weight
Feeling much better and livelierThen you get the new flavours:
wine vinegar, rice vinegar, balsamic vinegar
cakes made with GF cake mix and including courgette with lemon or rhubarb with ginger
chutneys based on wine vinegar
mint sauce with red wine vinegar
quinoa flake porridge with linseed, sultanas and molasses
gravy made with cornflour
a huge range of foods all exclude gluten
And if you need something which is similar to flour, then:
Gram flour is used in good Indian restaurants
Lentil based dishes are great (Spanish and Indian)
Other flours include Cornflour (from Maize, sweet corn,) Potato flour, rice flour,
There's a vast choice of foods waiting for us. I find Tesco's has the greatest range of GF foods, the list is huge, twenty five pages of good news in the Coeliac Food & Drink Directory.
PLUS all the fresh vegetables, fruit and meat.
What more do you want!!
Cheers
