4th November 2009. Now cropping leeks, beetroot, swede, red cabbage, potatoes, Not happy with the Quinoa or the Amaranth so I've ordered four fruit trees.
21st July 2009. Now cropping beetroot and potatoes. Leeks coming nicely, as are Quinoa and Amaranth. Squshes are all compromised, heaven only knows what we'll get. Lots of red cabbage, red sprouts and swede coming.
12th July 2009. Broad beans cropped superbly but the onions were a disaster because of onion rot. The quinoa and amaranth are both upto about two feet high and have started to show their flower heads. (I'm growing these as they can be used in gluten free stews, soups and casseroles.) The rest is now potatoes, swede, beetroot, leeks and various brassicas. The lavender are beautiful and the banana is now a clump. Next year we will probably be shifting over to more fruit.
29th May 2009. Picked first crop of broad beans. Potatoes are startingto flower, beans are all romping away, onions are almost ready. Have now planted beetroot, swede, leeks and red sprouts and cabbages. Squashes are all planted - Turks Turban, Vegetable Spaghetti, Blue Banana and Anna Swarz. Need to clear the bed ready for the brassicas (I cheated last year and need to sort the overgrown weeds on the edge of the bed.) That's it, the plot is full.
3rd May 2009. All the beans have been sown, though the Borlotti are in pots under fleece. Next will be the brassicas, beetroot and leeks. They are all in trays and are almost ready. Currently beds are potatoes, beans, onions and broad beans. We're picking Globe Artichokes.
By the way the bamboo and the banana seem to have survived the winter and the wall flower are superb with the lavender, nasturtiums and marigolds getting ready.
23rd March 2009. Broad beans, onions and garlic coming along very well. Potatoes all planted. Next in will be the squash and the beans plus possibly some leeks.
18th January 2009. The second allotment.
