Gluten Free holiday in Tenerife (from Gatwick) and at a Parador.

We had to wait two hours for our departure from Gatwick and were absolutely delighted with the EST EST EST Italian Restaurant (upstairs South Terminal), Grilled Tuna Steak on a Mediterranean Salad with extra Virgin Olive Oil and Balsamic vinegar. What a beautiful start to the holiday and it meant I didn't need to worry about any meal on the four hour flight.

In Tenerife the restaurant in the Hotel Florida in Puerto De La Cruz provided a buffet range of dishes where the choice was copious and the food excellent, the only thing I missed was carbohydrates at breakfast time. During the week I became more and more relaxed as I think the Spanish cuisine is wheat-free naturally, the chefs don't throw in some wheat thickening agent. (You must try the Papa Arrugadas)

On the Sunday we had a special day out when we visited the Parador De Turismo, 7000 ft on Mt Teide the extinct volcano which dominates the whole island. The food was fabulous in their restaurant, with a special Celiac menu card in the menu folder  - Grilled mediterranean vegetables; poached swordfish in a cheese sauce followed by Canary Island Baked Custard with lemon. The special menu page is available at many or all paradores (search for 'celiacos espagne parador')

During the course of the week we also had lunch at the Cafe Meson Andulcia and the Restaurante 'A Casa Galega' both in Calle Puerto Viejo (in Puerto De La Cruz), both brilliant for the Menu Del Dia and for local dishes. There are hundreds of restaurants and cafes with local dishes.

We actually spent most of our time walking or in the evenings we'd enjoy a game of Mahjongg.
