December 17th, Cleared all the Juliette new potatoes and the last of the outdoor lettuces. Also picked some peppers, chilies and radishes.
November 20th, From the allotment - raspberries, lettuces, radishes, chillies, peppers, potatoes (Juliettes), plus raided the stores for onions, pickled onions and chutney. Now saving seeds from corgettes, miniature white cucumbers and Plum Lemon tomatoes. Some strawberries are full size but will they ripen?
November 12th. Well we collected a beautiful lettuce, some raspberries, radishes (from the greenhouse), some Czar beans, orange peppers, white pepper, 3-4 courgettes, four runner beans that went in the soup.
Nov 5th Picked half a dozen orange peppers, one white pepper, one chilli, some celeriac, purple sage, rosemary and also some flowers.
28th October 2006. Dug up 10 lbs of potatoes, collected some courgettes, chillies, lettuce, white tomatillo, orange pepper.
21st October, Tested the Jerusalem Artichokes getting up one plant, 3.5 lbs of Artichokes! We also collected the last two butternut squashes, a bundle of spring onions, one each black and white radish, some tomatillos, white pepper, a lettuce and a chilli.
14th October, We cleared the last of the Charlotte potatoes, some 30lbs or so.
12th October, I thought it would have all slowed down to a stop, but we've been away for a week. During the week a butternut squash, seven courgettes, lettuce, plus tomatoes, yellow peppers were picked and today we added to that with tomatilloes, dwarf french beans, more lettuce, Crystal Apple cucumbers, white peppers, together with beans for seeds (Lazy Housewife and Cherokee Trail of tears, beautiful purple pods.)
30th September. Twelve days of Autumn:twelve pounds of yellow plum tomatoes,
eleven pounds of Caro Rich,
ten green courgettes,
nine Thymes a telling,
eight leeks a dying,
seven butternut squashes,
six types of beans,
five gold peppers,
four chilli peps,
three french beans,
two snails asneaking
and a marrow for tomorrow's seeds
18th September. First Canasta lettuce today. Well yes we have the on-going crops of tomatoes, thankfully they are coming to an end. Olivades will become Green Tomatoe Chutney by the end of the week. The beauty this week is Tendergreen dwarf french beans picked very young, lightly boiled and served with butter, with the Charlotte potatoes harvested yesterday and with poached salmon, plus a glass of rose.
16th September. The beans, tomatoes and radishes are overwhelming us now. Some given to friends and relatives and we still had 24lbs of Tomatoes to take to the Friday Market. Courgettes being picked again.
4th September. Our first Tomatillos absolutely beautiful (www.realseeds.co.uk) sweet and tart just as described. Plus 6.5 lbs of tomatoes.
3rd September, Tomatoes building up now, 3 lbs a day, can't cope with the size of the crop, already making tomato sauce and Salsa. Czar, Purple and Yellow beans all have caught up with Lady Di now, 3lbs a day. Plus the next succession of radishes have started, Raspberries just a few. Cucumbers still going but just about finished. New lot of Courgettes have started - slowly.
27 August 2006, Picked heaviest crop yet, 15lbs Squashes; 10lbs potatoes (Charlottes); 10lbs Beans (Lady Di prolific, Purple Queen pole beans excellent, Czar, Venice Yellow, Lazy Housewife and Trail of Tears have not performed well;) tomatoes 3lbs; Minature White and Crystal Apple cucumbers some; and all this following 5lbs a day for the last few weeks.
19Th August, Caro Rich tomatoes are the Orange Slicing variety and are ripe earlier than they look, similar problem with the Plum Lemon tomatoes. Picked first Autumn Bliss raspberries, lovely (looking forward to next year when the plants have settled in.) Beans, courgettes, tortarellos, crystal apple cucumbers and now tomatoes are all flowing well. Picked first Minowase and Radis Noir.
3th August, steady flow of beans, courgettes, beetroot, and radishes. Still to start the flood of tomatoes but it's getting nearer, and started the next bed of potatoes "Charlotte", beautiful.
10th August: picked green beans tonight (after purple beans on Wednesday), three tomatoes picked, three Etna chillies, half a dozen Crystal Lemon aka Crystal Apple aka Tortarellos, radishes, more courgettes (left one to become a marrow and give us the seeds for next year,) even some more Miniature White Cukes (found out they were aka Dimara a type of Cornichons so started pickling some yesterday.) Really great haul considering there's really only the two of us. Swapped some beans for tomatoes.
5th August, given a summer squash and beetroot, picked runner beans, cleared Lady Christl potatoes.
4th August, first chillie 'Etna', first tomato (don't know variety,) picked plus loads of beans, lifted the summer onions to dry, Purple Plum radishes are great.
3rd August, a few beetroot and some Miniature White cucumbers.
28th July started picking runner beans and pole beans in earnest now, courgettes still running well,
22nd July picked first Miniature White Cucumber, cleared Maris Peer potatoes, lots of green courgettes, skinned the shallots ready for pickling, Crystal Apple cucumbers are performing superbly.
9th July Lady Christl potatoes, outdoor green courgettes, lots of yellow courgettes,
7th July broccoli, cucumber, Maris Peer potatoes.
5th July potatoes, cleared the broad beans and frozen them, small haul of blackcurrants all picked, broccoli and potatoes.
28th June. Dug potatoes Lady Christl, plus more broad beans and more strawberries. 26th June the strawberries are rolling now; have dried off and hung 150 or so onions (over-wintered), and a dozen garlic (over-wintered); cabbage now finished;
25th June first yellow courgette from the greenhouse,
23rd June picked first cucumbers yesterday, Crystal apple, been picking broad beans for the whole of the last week. Over-wintered onions are now dried off enough to use, probably a couple of hundred of them.
14th June dug first potatoes (2lbs) , Maris Piper are beautiful and sweet tasting compared with Desiree, though giving a smaller yield. Also picked first Mangetout Peas (1lb); the sweet peas in amongst the peas and beans smell delightful.
29th May pulled first onions for hardening off.
May 2006, just pulled this years first radishes; last week cut our first Spring Hero Cabbage, delicious.April and May 2006 now picking Winter Delight lettuces complete, enough to give some away and everyone likes them, 'crisp and sweet' Cos type lettuce.March 2006 leaves picked from Winter Delight lettuce most days.January 2006, occasionally digging some carrots, sweet and crunchy.November 2005, a few smallish beetroots, we like them roasted in Rosemary Oil.July, August and September 2005 Earliest crop probably 15lbs of dwarf french beans, with about 20 courgettes. Plus some Radishes but not many. Off to a pretty good start, very gratifying, good sense of achievement.
